Notes

  1. Parishes with Saints' names are listed by name not by St. e.g. Hilary, St.
  2. Underlined names link to the OPC's Parish page, where more information is available. (Links open in a new window)
  3. * indicates that later records are available for look-ups.
  4. P for marriages or banns indicates a transcription from Phillimores. (i.e. a transcription
of a transcription, which had then been typeset).  These are known to contain many errors and researchers are reminded that they should always consult the original register entries. because of the many spelling variations, lateral thinking is needed when searching by name. Abbreviations used are:
    w - widow or widower
s - spinster, single woman or son of
b - bachelor or single man
    d - daughter of
p - of the parish of
dioc - in the diocese of
co - in the county of
    lic - marriage licence
    car - carpenter
    f - fisherman
    h - husbandman
    lab - labourer
    t - tinner
    y - yeoman
  5. BT stands for Bishops' Transcripts
  6. PREC indicates Parish Reconstruction (see bottom of this page)
  7. The database also contains transcriptions from the West Briton newspaper. For these, the results will give the parish as West Briton and the date will be that of the newspaper's publication. Further details might be available here.

PARISH RECONSTRUCTION

A note from Susan Old

  • These are NOT transcripts of the Parish Registers "as is". Because I have a detailed knowledge of  "my " parishes some of the names have been  standardized, even though I know them to be spelled differently at various stages.
  • They are an amalgamation from various sources and are provided as a research tool only.
  • Always check the original registers, as I can make mistakes and do sometimes interpret difficult parts of the register based on my other observations of deaths etc.
  • Because of the way I record my parishes I can usually give you relations of the main ancestor through many generations and other parishes. Also recorded are all appearances in the Censuses 1841 to 1891 together with entries from Non-Conformist Registers wherever possible.
  • Lastly, this is a never ending project and these lists are already being added to and augmented so please do not take them as exhaustive. THEY ARE NOT.
  • If you have any queries or wish any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
